It is more important than ever to keep your finances under control and save money on the monthly budget. While we all know the big things we can do, such as improving the energy efficiency of our home to lower our utility bills and taking advantage of bundled savings with our communications services, there are other smaller things that can add-up to a big difference. The truth is that retailers have conned you into thinking that being a “one-stop shop” is a great thing, but in all actuality, it’s not. Finances: Ways to Save Money While You’re Unemployed

When the economy is rough we’re all affected in some way.  Whether our hours got cut at work, that second job laid us off or we’re now unemployed, it is hard to get by from day to day.  What’s even worse is when we don’t even see it coming.  If you find yourself in this position and you’re looking for ways to help you get by on the little money you have saved, here are some tips.

Leisure: When we’re employed and making good money, what we do for fun is different.  We’re used to going out, seeing movies, maybe going to sports games, etc.  Now that we’re on a very tight budget we need to change what we do for fun.  Instead, you may want to spend days at the park, around the house and maybe hang out with friends and family since they’re all cost free.

Food: Food is one of our largest expenses.  So, to start saving money I would avoid going out to dinner and instead start cooking at home.   Also, when you go grocery shopping, only buy on sale items and always be sure to use coupons.  Websites like CouponMom and GroceryGame will really help you stretch a dollar when you need to.
