State of the Market: 2010 Hiring Forecast

The start of the New Year provides us with the opportunity to reassess our job seeking goals and make adjustments to our plans. Identify the areas that you need to spruce up, clarify your goals, and determine if retraining or additional training can make the difference in 2010.

Taking a day to think about where this recession has left the market place and what adjustments you need to make in order to be successful.  A good place to start is with the just released Career Builder hiring survey that provides the most current information on what employers are planning to do in 2010.  The Career Builder survey covers hiring in general for 2010, by region, by industry, by job type and the expected compensation for hiring.

In general the findings provide encouraging news for the unemployed.  An example of the data that your can find in the survey includes:

Hiring in 2010

  • Full time employees
    • 20% plan to increase head count vs. 14% in 2009
    • 9% plan to decrease head count vs.16% in 2009
    • 61% don’t plan to change staff levels
    • 10% are unsure of staffing changes
  • Part time employees
    • 11% plan to increase head count vs. 9% in 2009
    • 8% plan to decrease head count vs. 14% in 2009
    • 69% plan no change in head count
    • 13% are unsure of any changes
