We spend the majority of our waking lives at work; it’s little wonder that so many of us yearn to make that time meaningful. We can’t all be scientists, doctors or politicians but working in the charity or not-for-profit sector allows people from all walks of life to work towards a positive change in the world.
Whether you’re a new graduate or looking to make a career change, the not-for-profit sector is proving an increasingly popular vocational destination. Traditionally this sector has been seen as a financial compromise and indeed, salaries lag behind the private sector, especially at the highest management levels. However, it is not unusual for salaries to range from $30,000-$60,000 and as one NFP convert says: “the emotional satisfaction I get from knowing the company I work for is actually out there improving people’s lives cannot be underestimated.
