There is plenty of advice out there about what you should do while job searching – freshen up your resume, dress properly for the interview, send a thank-you note, etc. But what are the things you should avoid when pursuing a new position?

Here are five things not to do while job searching:

Tell the wrong people that you’re looking for work – If you’re looking for a job while you’re still employed somewhere else, or you’re keeping your job search private for other reasons, be careful who you choose to tell that you’re looking for work. It’s important to get out there and network, but you don’t want the fact that you’re looking for a new job to come back to haunt you in any way.
