Job Opportunities: Graduating? Check Out These 13 Jobs

The job market has been tough for everyone the last few years, but recent college graduates have had it worse than most. Luckily, this year 1.7 million graduates will still have plenty of opportunities to find work.

Two separate reports found that employers are planning to hire more college graduates this year. One report, from NACE, shows that companies will increase hiring of new graduates by 10 percent this spring.  However, that growth rate is slower than the 21 percent increase between 2010 and 2011.

The next report, from CERISU, found that hiring of 2011-2012 graduates with bachelor’s degrees will grow by 7 percent. That is also slightly slower than the previous year, when hiring rose by 10 percent. » Read more: Job Opportunities: Graduating? Check Out These 13 Jobs

Australia is planning to entice a great number of American tradesman; construction workers, electricians and plumbers, into employment on their Outback projects.

Mining and gas industries in Australia are booming and they are struggling to provide the level of workers needed from domestic sources. In order to attract foreign workers, the government has announced that they will change the way that their skills are assessed.

Job Search Tips: Employers Search For Hires Differently During Job Shortages

Why do employers search differently during job shortages?

Partially, it’s because they can – but employers also have to search differently to achieve their goals during times of job shortages.

Even during prior recessions, there have been at least as many jobs advertised as unemployed workers. Now, there are 5 to 6 times more unemployed workers than jobs advertised. Even if you think that unemployment numbers are understated, today’s job market is different than any post-depression job market that we’ve experienced.

It’s even more challenging for those of you searching for jobs, because we’ve all been trained to search for a job during times of candidate shortages.
