Job Search Tips: 7 Things You Shouldn’t Do On Your Job Application

In today’s economy, there are a countless number of people applying for jobs. Whether you just lost your job, or you’re looking for a new one, I wanted to give you some tips on what you shouldn’t do when you’re filling out an application for a job.

Since your corporate based jobs generally don’t require an application, you will find that this is a different area. Instead, let’s focus more on job applications that are related to retail, as well as restaurants.

Mistakes you shouldn’t make when filling out an application…

#1 Follow the directions noted:  Wherever you find out about the job opening, you’re going to want to make sure that you follow the directions.  If it states no phone calls or faxes, then you’re going to want to respect this.  It’s not too hard to do something like this, yet many don’t understand the concept.

#2 Meet the criteria: If the job opening states that they need at least 2 years experience, you’re going to want to have that 2 years of experience.  If you don’t, you can plan on them throwing your application away as fast as possible.

Responding to many requests, The New England Jobs Show now makes it easy to listen to its highly rated show contents while driving, jogging or working out.

The New England Job Show is an innovative, grass roots project engaged in assisting and supporting unemployed individuals manage a successful job search that leads to an employment offer. NEJS produces and disseminates quality educational information and new media services to help job seekers in the New England Region. Episodes (podcasts) include the “Job Show”, panel discussions, interviews with thought leaders regarding a variety of job seeking topics and issues, “ePitches”, (short “commercials” by individual job seekers to potential employers), and Landings (people who recently got a new job talk about how they did it). New England Job Show Initiates Pilot Program With Greater Lowell Career Center

Chelmsford, MA – November 2, 2009 – New England Job Show (NEJS) announces that on November 6, 2009, they will begin a pilot program with the Career Center of Lowell.

In this pilot program, Career Center of Lowell clients will participate in a simulated job interview which will be professionally recorded on video by a New England Job Show volunteer.  In preparation for the interview, the interviewee will work with a NEJS coach who will help them polish their responses to the interviewer’s questions. In this 90 second simulated job interview, participants will tell perspective employers about themselves, about an achievement that they are particularly proud of and about the type of job they are seeking.  Participation in this pilot program is voluntary.

This professional produced and edited video will be returned to the interviewee giving them another tool to utilize as they pursue their next career opportunity.  This video recording is a creative way to set oneself apart from all the other job seekers vying for that same position.
