With the jobless rate fluctuating and no real end in sight, many people are taking up other ways to make money. If you aren’t completely strapped for money yet, there are tons of volunteer positions that can lead to real jobs, hospital jobs, and other non-profits. Offering your skills can lead to real paying positions.

If you’re going to run out of funds, there are other options. Depending on where you live, you may have more opportunities than you think, like delivering pizzas or newspapers, pet and house sitting, and having garage sales, but if you want something that’s a bit more steady and may have the potential to earn you even more money, here’s three ideas to get you going.

Set up an online retail store. If you have the ability to set up a Web site using Microsoft Live Office or Word Press, then you can set up a Web store and sell items you like. If you have a certain product, like baby socks or candles that you can make, you can sell those. You can also become an affiliate of an online store and make commission on anything from Computers to Beef online.

Using drop shipping, you can advertise products on your site without actually stocking them. Through fairly low drop ship memberships, you can pick and choose products you like and sell them on your online store. The drop shipper takes care of shipping and packaging, and you pay the wholesale price, and keep the extra.

Tutoring or Teaching English. If you are good at Math, English, Science, or other subjects, then you can offer tutoring services through tutoring agencies, or at your local schools. If you have a colleges or learning institutes nearby, you could also offer to teach English as a second language.

If you play an instrument, you could teach private lessons. Don’t sell yourself short. If you have a subject you’re good at, there are all kinds of ways to teach it. Schools are also always in need of substitute teachers.

Mystery Shopping and Focus Groups. Despite the slowing of the economy, many companies are still sponsoring secret shopping and focus groups to test products and services. Mystery shopping is a fun way to earn some money and sometimes you get to keep products for free. Focus groups are a little harder to find, but a quick search will help you locate companies that offer decent fees for spending a few hours giving your opinions.

There are many other ideas out there, and hopefully these three will help get those idea juices rolling. Happy hunting!
