Jackie_Headshot V2Snow is on the ground.  Trees are sparkling with a light coating of winter white.  Holiday decorations have been put away.  You look around and slowly realize that you are now cooped up in the house while continuing to look for a job.  Keeping my spirits up during the summer was not too hard, after all who can complain about looking for a job while enjoying warm breezes and sunshine. But winter . . .

In trying to prepare myself for the relentless cold and snow of January and February I took a look at articles that talked about how to stay motivated during an extended job search.  While there were quite a few with valuable points the article that really resonated with me was written in 2002 during another little economic blip.  Although this article was written before the social media frenzy the tips were right for the times and are still right today.

Top tips for staying motivated:

  • Volunteer
  • Take a break
  • Be around positive people
  • Get exercise
  • Attend association meetings
  • Keep a record of your search
  • Talk to a professional
  • Re-evaluate your priorities
  • Read books about successful people
  • Join a support group
