LinkedIn: Finding the Right Groups

I think we all agree that LinkedIn is a great tool.  With time of the essence it is really important that you approach the groups section strategically otherwise you can easily be overwhelmed with emails on group activities.  How do you find the right groups?

Dan DeMaioNewton recently published a list on Better Jobs Faster of LinkedIn groups that he feels are critical for job seekers.  Use it to augment your existing list of groups.

Dan has also created a list of subgroups that can greatly increase your chances of meeting people who can help with your job search.  A Subgroup is usually created as a Regional, Professional/Industry, or Special Interest category within a Group. Most groups have Subgroups. To join a Subgroup, you must be a member of its parent Group.

Why join a Subgroup?  Each Subgroup has a job tab and often its own job postings which may not be listed on the main group area.  And, most importantly, it is easier for those looking for targeted job candidates to find you.

  1. I live in Londonderry, NH…are there any good networking groups in my area…I am in Finance and was a Senior Credit Analyst for JP Morgan Chase…Thank you.

  2. Jacqueline Simmonds says:

There are several groups in the area that you can attend. I would recommend that you try a few and see which ones best suit your needs.

You can learn about the NHES Networking Group meeting by reading our news article on a recent meeting, NH Governor John Lynch Tells NEJS: “It Is All About Jobs…”. You might try the Acton Networking Group – actonnetworkers.org, WIND – windnetworking.net, Nashua After Hours Networking, or the Lowell Networking Group Meeting.
